I’m sure the few of you who follow my blog (thanks 🙂 ) didn’t appreciate my little footnote in my last post where I dropped that I have a boyfriend. Those of you who follow me on twitter got the news a little earlier and I’d assume you too were surprised when I mentioned I was “boo’d up” a couple of months ago. LOL I understand the confusion, because HECK I’m confused myself. “How did this happen?!” you may ask as I ask myself. Especially you long-time ThisIsTip readers, who know about my off and on man cleanses over the last year or so.
This has been one heck of a start to a year. I can’t believe its April already, the last three months have been crazy. All i can say is God is good! Wow, where do I start?
I guess I’ll recap some of my 2012 goals.
- Blog weekly
- Lose 15 by spring (pounds that is)
- New job
- Prepare to go back to school for a Masters
God, give us grace to accept with serenity
the things that cannot be changed,
Courage to change the things
which should be changed,
and the Wisdom to distinguish
the one from the other.
think the most important part of the serenity prayer the last part. The discernment to know the difference between what you can change and what you can change your life. i believe many of us spend countless hours worrying about things that we have absolutely no control over. I believe if we just spent a fraction of that time working on the things we can control, we would navigate through life easier. Sure there would still be problems and bad days, things would still blind side us, but hopefully we’d be better prepared to handle them
I don’t remember how I stumble on the blog entry that inspired this post, it was probably twitter, but Tiny Buddha’s post 50 Things You Can Control Right Now is an awesome list. You should definitely give it a look and pick a choose a few you’d like to implement in your own life or add your own.
I’m going to start off with some of the smaller things and hope for a snowball effect that will lead to the bigger tasks. The 10 things that I’m choosing to work on are… Continue reading
So it’s the new year!!! (well technically it’s passed, but we are still in the first week buffer) There’s something about January 1st that makes us analyze the past 365 days of our lives. Even those of us who curse resolutions correlate the start of the new year as the start of something new in our lives. You may call these “new starts” goals, aspirations, life changes, etc…but they are still resolutions. Whether you make a list, start a blog, or create a vision board…they are still resolutions. And you know what? There is nothing wrong with that. We need to take some time and look back and reflect on what has passed in order to redirect our plan for the future. Without focused goals how will be ever become the people we want to and are destined to be? we wouldn’t!
So in the spirit of Starting Anew I’m going to share with you some of the best “improve your life” articles, stories and blogs to inspire you to change something big or small this year.
Up first EXERCISE!
First up……. Ramon “The Trainer” Terry and his company My Formula 360 have issued a 66 day fitness challenge, Formula66. Almost everyone resolves to be healthier or lose weight, so here’s a simple one. Below is the challenge:
WHAT is Formula66: 66 consecutive days of exercise.
WHY 66 days: It takes 66 consecutive days of an activity to create a habit. The hardest thing about having an active lifestyle or sticking to a weight loss program is the effort it takes to exercise. Life, work, stress, kids, etc, has made exercise a low or non priority resulting in chronic lazyness!
Formula66 is a plan to turn your lazy habit into an active lifestyle. This is not a diet it’s an effort to rewire your brain and majorly change your body in the process. Once you get over this 66 day hump you’ll never go back!
Yup, that’s it! Basically just get out and get 30 min of exercise daily for the next 66 days. Even though this technically began on Monday, January 2nd, it’s not to late to start! Like My Formula 360‘s page on Facebook for the daily reminders, tips and exercises. You can also follow My Formula 360 on twitter!
I am committed this and I’m proud to say I’ve yet to miss a day, yes I’m aware it’s only day 4. LOL Start strong, finish strong, RIGHT?!
I’ve checked my gym’s class schedule and am working on some back up plans for the inevitable day I can’t make the gym. Everyday may not be a full workout, but I intend to break a sweat daily whether it’s walking the dog or taking the stairs.
No not “Which was first the chicken or the egg?” but “Can men and women be just friends?” Like really just friends. I’ve sort of always wondered this as I don’t have many male friends. And I’ve got to admit that in most of the few male friendships I have, there is some type of history or one person is sorta attracted to the other.
This question is on my mind today because of a conversation with a close girlfriend and her boyfriend after spending New Years with Mr. Off Limits. The
three of you who follow the blog might remember that Mr. Off Limits is a friend of a guy I used to “date” (hence the name) that I sickeningly flirt with on social media but rarely in person. A brief recap – after I returned from my last confusing visit, I asked him (I thought directly-my girlfriend disagrees) via text (<–this is why my girlfriend disagrees) “Are we just playing online with our flirting or are we for real?” He dodged the question. I took that as “just playing” and told him so. He replied “I wouldn’t take it that way”. Again, the lack of an answer was my answer. Since I am cool with being just friends, we have continued as such. This all happened back around labor day. Continue reading
Everyone has their favorite holiday tunes, some are universal others are personal. Whether it’s the old school classics from your childhood, new school faves of late, spiritual or secular these are the songs that make up the playlist that gets you into the spirit of Christmas. Below are my favorite Christmas tracks:
1o. Destiny’s Child – 8 Days of Christmas
I’m not really sure if I even liked this song when it came out back in 2001 , but nevertheless the light-hearted contemporary take on the 12 days of Christmas is on my list now.
9. Christmas Time is Here – Peanuts
We all have a movie that’s airing symbolizes the coming of Christmas. For some it’s The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, others It’s a Wonderful Life, but I love A Charlie Brown Christmas. (really the animated Disney version of A Christmas Carol is my favorite, but it rarely airs). I like this one so much its one of my holiday ringtones. Continue reading
The holiday spirit hit me late this year…just last weekend in fact, despite the fact that I had mailed my Christmas cards and attended my office holiday lunch. Somehow this weekend while my wonderful neighbor was trying to get my heat to work, it FINALLY hit me! I began to set out my holiday dishes, hang my garland and bake ginger snaps.
ANYWHO…I just wanted to say Merry Christmas to all of you! Don’t forget the REAL reason for the season. Jesus!!! He came and died on the cross for you and me. I’m so thankful for my life, friends, family. Take some time and reflect on all your blessings. One of my resolutions will be to post at least one blog a week in 2012. I hope you all had a great year and that 2012 will be even better.
So yesterday on the Tom Joyner Morning Show Paul Carrick Brunson, the real life Hitch, issued a challenge to all women. The challenge…to ask out 10 men by January 1st. On the surface this seems easy enough and a nice challenge to help women break out of their shell and approach men.
I woke up in the morning feeling fresh to death
I’m so blessed, yes yes
I went to sleep stressed, woke up refreshed
I’m so blessed, yeah yes
Water in my face and everything is in it’s place
Peace of mind even my grace
I’m so blessed, yes yes yes
My grandma just turned one hundred
I’m so blessed, yes yes yes yes
I’ve had an event full last 3-4 days and one thing that is apparent…I’m so blessed!!
